Carnival Freedom is preparing to resume passenger service after a 35-day refurbishment in Marseille, France. In its October 8, 2026 announcement, Carnival says the ship is due in Barcelona on October 9 for an eight-day Mediterranean cruise.
The work includes a replacement whale-tail funnel with a lower profile, which Carnival says will allow access to more ports. Onboard changes include a larger casino with over 100 additional machines, an updated arcade, refreshed shops and accessibility improvements.
Freedom is then scheduled for a 13-day Atlantic crossing, reaching Port Canaveral on October 30. It will remain based there through May 2027 before moving to Norfolk, Virginia.
Separately, Carnival has opened the ship’s 2028–29 Norfolk season, with six- to eight-day itineraries running through April 2029. Destinations include Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Eastern Caribbean and Canada. Travelers comparing departures should distinguish those newly available future cruises from the ship’s immediate return-to-service schedule.
