Newcastle, Australia, has opened its 2026–27 cruise season with Crown Princess arriving on October 8. In its October 8 announcement, Destination NSW says more than 30,000 cruise tourists are expected during the season, with 18 ships scheduled between October and April and five first-time arrivals.
For visitors, the update includes practical improvements ashore. Newcastle’s tourism group has recruited 30 additional welcome volunteers and is updating signs and tourist maps. A separate east-end initiative plans a shuttle loop every 20 minutes between the Visitor Information Centre and the Hunter and Watt Street area, connecting passengers with local shops, galleries and dining.
The announcement also highlights regional excursion possibilities, including the Hunter Valley and Port Stephens. Availability depends on the individual sailing and tour operator.
These are season forecasts and planned visitor services, rather than a guarantee for every port call. Passengers should confirm their own ship’s arrival arrangements and any shuttle operating details before heading ashore.
