Viking has celebrated the naming of seven river ships in a ceremony connecting four countries, the company announced October 15, 2026. Amsterdam hosted the main gathering beside Viking Rota and Viking Haki, with five other vessels joining virtually from France, Germany and Egypt.
The ships cover several distinct river-cruise regions. Haki, Halogi, Sjofn and Rota are assigned to itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube. Viking Fjolvar serves the Seine, while Viking Ptah operates on the Nile. Viking Sekhmet is scheduled to begin Nile sailings in 2027.
Seven travel-industry partners served as godparents. The remote ceremony locations included Les Andelys, Rostock and Luxor, allowing the ships to participate without gathering in one port.
For travelers, the useful distinction is that a naming ceremony does not place every vessel on the same operating timetable. Sekhmet’s service is still ahead, while other ships in the group are already sailing. Check the named ship and departure date when comparing itineraries.
